Claire Vickers
I work as collaboratively as possible with clients to look together for ways to understand and overcome a variety of issues with which they are struggling, including:
• Anxiety issues (such as generalised anxiety, panic disorder, health anxiety and phobias
• Low mood and depression
• Unwanted habits
I have an MSc in CBT and also an MSc in psychoanalytic theory and work in private practice in several different settings. I use a traditional CBT approach, along with TEAM-CBT (an enhanced CBT framework developed by Dr David Burns, a key early developer of CBT) and I am really enthusiastic about using this framework, as it allows me to blend different approaches according to a client’s individual preferences and presentation.
I have a particular interest in helping people with the distressing symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and have furthered my understanding of these difficulties by training in specialist strategies (Rumination-Focused ERP and Inference-based CBT) that can either enhance more common OCD strategies or be effective when those strategies have not been fully successful.
I offer therapy from a clinic room in Summertown (North Oxford) or online via Zoom. I work with individual clients (adults over the age of 18) and am accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work with their professional and ethical guidelines.
